In short: A 30-day cycle from 6 July 2026 puts the next period on 5 August 2026 and the six after that through 2 January 2027. A cycle is considered regular when its length varies by no more than about 7 to 9 days between cycles.

Worked Example
- Set day 1. 6 July 2026 — the first day of full flow, not spotting.
- Add the cycle length. 6 July + 30 days = 5 August 2026 for the next period.
- Project forward. The following five land on 4 Sep, 4 Oct, 3 Nov, 3 Dec 2026 and 2 Jan 2027.
- Measure the spread. Shortest 26, longest 33, so variation is 7 days — just inside regular.
- Map the phases. Menstrual 1–5, follicular 1–16, ovulation day 16, luteal 17–30.
The regularity check matters more than the projection. Two people can both describe a 30-day average cycle while one varies between 29 and 31 days and the other between 22 and 38, and only the first can plan anything from a calendar at all. That is why this page asks for the shortest and longest recent cycle rather than only the average: the spread between them is the number that decides whether the six projected dates are useful or decorative. At a 7-day spread this person sits just inside the conventional band, so the dates are reasonable estimates. Past about 9 days, arithmetic stops being the right tool and observation — predictor kits, mucus tracking — takes over.

The menstrual cycle is measured from the first day of full flow in one period to the first day of the next, and this engine projects forward from a stated average while assessing whether that average is meaningful. Projection alone is of limited value, so the engine takes the shortest and longest recent cycles and reports the spread between them: a variation within roughly seven to nine days is conventionally regarded as regular, and beyond that calendar prediction ceases to be dependable regardless of how stable the mean appears. The conventional adult range is twenty-one to thirty-five days, wider in the years following menarche and increasingly erratic through perimenopause. Phases are mapped against the stated cycle length rather than a textbook twenty-eight, with the follicular phase absorbing the variation and the luteal phase held at approximately fourteen days, since it is governed by the fixed lifespan of the corpus luteum. The engine sets out the specific features that warrant clinical assessment rather than further arithmetic, including cycles persistently outside the normal range, bleeding beyond seven days, intermenstrual or postcoital bleeding, absence of periods for ninety days without pregnancy, and any sudden marked change in an established pattern.
