What this result does not account for

  • Whole-day resolution; no time-of-birth term
  • Annual dates only — one-off targets use the countdown page

In short: Born on 15 June 1990, the next birthday turns 37 on Tuesday, 15 June 2027 — 270 days out from 18 September 2026. The birthday was born a Friday and lands on a Tuesday in 2027 and a Thursday in 2028, the leap-year skip buying the extra weekday drift. The half-birthday mark falls on 15 December, six calendar months around the wheel, clamped to the month's end whenever the short months have no seat for the day.

Formula

next birthday = first occurrence of (month, day) after the as-of date, clamped to the month's end

The walk takes the birth month and day, seats them in the first year where the date still lies ahead, and clamps to the month's last day when the calendar has no matching seat — the 29th of February celebrates on the 28th in common years, the same clamp the age page uses. The half-birthday runs the identical walk six months around the wheel: August 31st lands on February 28th, a February 29th on an August 29th.

Worked Example

  1. Set the birth date and the as-of date.
  2. Read the countdown, the turning age and the weekday.
  3. Check the half-birthday and the weekday drift.

Defaults: 15 June 1990 as of 18 September 2026 — turns 37 in 270 days on a Tuesday, half mark 15 December, the weekday drifting Friday to Tuesday to Thursday across the leap skip.

Strengths & Limits Of This Model

Where this engine is strong

  • Turning age, countdown and weekday in one card
  • Half-birthday with the honest month-end clamp

Where it stops

  • No lunar or cultural calendars

Risk & accuracy notice. Birthday rules feed school cut-offs and eligibility bands; the calendar answer here is the arithmetic the certificate starts from.

Practical Use Cases

Party planning

the weekday the next birthday lands on

Kids' clubs

the half-birthday mark mid-cycle

Renewal dates

the same annual walk for any fixed day

Methodology & Editorial Standards

Computation runs in IEEE-754 double precision at full internal precision; rounding to two decimal places occurs strictly at the display layer, so no cumulative drift enters the result. All monetary outputs use accounting presentation — grouped thousands, two decimals, negatives in parentheses — so figures can be transcribed directly into a model or working paper. Division-by-zero and out-of-domain inputs return an em-dash rather than a misleading number.

This engine was reconciled against an independent reference implementation and hand-verified for the worked example above before release. Our full five-stage review process is published on the About Us page.

Birthday Calculator — 8 Expert FAQs

8 analyst-written answers to the questions practitioners actually ask — optimised for voice and answer-engine retrieval.

How is this different from the age page?

The age page decomposes a life into years, months and days as it stands. This page aims forward: it prices the countdown to the next occurrence of the day, the age that day turns, and where the weekday lands. One looks back, one looks ahead.

What happens to February 29th birthdays?

In common years the calendar has no seat, so the walk clamps to February 28th and says so. Whether the law treats the 28th or March 1st as the day varies by jurisdiction — the page prints the arithmetic, the certificate rules.

Why does the birthday drift one weekday a year?

A 365-day year is 52 weeks plus one day, so each birthday lands one weekday later than the last. Across a leap day the drift is two — which is why the example jumps Friday to Tuesday to Thursday across 2028.

What is a half birthday?

The mark six calendar months around the wheel from the birth date: same day number, opposite half of the year. When the target month runs short the mark clamps to its last day — an August 31st birth marks February 28th, or the 29th in a leap year.

Why does the countdown need an as-of date?

So the page stays honest and testable: the countdown is measured from a stated date, which you set to today for the live figure or to any other date to plan ahead. Pinning the clock also makes the arithmetic reproducible.

Can I count down to a date that is not a birthday?

Yes — the walk works for any fixed month and day. For a one-off target date with weeks, hours and a hundred-day mark, the countdown page is the tool; this page is tuned to the annual return.

Why does the countdown reset on the day itself?

When the as-of date lands on the birthday, the next occurrence is a full year away — the sawtooth has just reset. The card shows the full 365- or 366-day count rather than a zero, because the day it counts to is next year's.

Does the time of birth matter here?

No — the page works in whole calendar days. Two people born morning and night on the same date share every birthday; the hour only matters to the minute on the boundary day itself.
