Worked Example

  1. Convert to millilitres first. 1 US cup × 236.5882365 = 236.5882365 mL.
  2. Divide by the target unit. 236.5882365 ÷ 250 = 0.9464 metric cups.
  3. Notice the gap. A US cup is about 5.67 % smaller than a metric cup.
  4. Check the spoon separately. A tablespoon is 3 teaspoons — unless the recipe is Australian, when it is 4.
  5. Prefer grams for solids. Volume cannot describe flour reliably at any precision.
